Olin Hacker—Madison West High School
OLIN HACKER, Madison West High, was quite simply an outstanding runner for his school. Not only was he the individual state champ in 2013 and 2014, but he is one of only two runners ever to break 15:00 on the Ridges course, running 14:59.1 in his final year. His team won the D-1 state titles in 2012 and 2014, finishing runner-up in 2013. He was the individual Sectional champ in 2012, 13, and 14, also earning the Big Eight individual title in 2013 and 2014. He was the Wisconsin Gatorade Boys Cross Country Player of the year in 2013 and 2014. Hacker also finished second in the Nike Cross Nationals and Foot Locker Nationals in 2014. In 2015, he was named as Wisconsin Scholar Athlete.
Jeff Jurss—Sheboygan Lutheran High School
JEFF JURSS, Sheboygan Lutheran High School, has taken his teams to tremendous success in Wisconsin cross country circles. After launching his coaching career in 1994, he carefully built toward boys’ conference titles in 1997 and 1999, continuing that trend with nine more since the year 2000. Then it became Sectional titles in 2000 and 2004, with seven more occurring after that. That 2004 Sectional title also became a State championship in the same season, with more boys’ titles in 2005, 2006, and 2020. He had Sectional runner-up teams in 2009, 2010, 2015, 2016, and 2021. On the girls side, his teams were State Runners-up in 2008 and 2010, with conference titles in both of those years. The girls were also second at the Sectionals in 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010. In addition, he has run a top quality invitational for most of those years
Earl Foster—Port Washington High School
EARL “POP” FOSTER coached for an extensive period of time at Port Washington High School, from the 1930’s through the 1950’s. Although data and records from those days are not readily available, we do know that Foster had huge success during those years, winning four state championships. He won back to back titles in 1933 and 1934, following that success with back to back championships in 1956 and 1957. Each time, his team had an outstanding runner to lead the team, winning individual titles at the very same time. Fred Schmit was the individual champ in the 30’s, while John Lesch earned individual honors in 1956 and 1957. Although we do not have records from the early days telling us anything about conference titles, we do know that Foster’s team was Braveland Conference champion in 1957, also individual champion with Lesch.
