Mike Miller is a highly accomplished high school cross country and track coach with more than four decades of experience developing championship-level programs and student-athletes in Wisconsin.

Kent Miehe—Darlington High School

​

Kent Miehe attended Darlington High School from 2008-2012 while also competing in cross country and track. While in cross country, the teams Kent was part of won four consecutive conference & sectional championships in Division 3, along with the 2011 State Championship, alongside his brother Tyson, who was the individual state champ that season, and his dad, Arnie, who was the head coach. He then attended UW-Whitewater where he competed in cross country & track under Hall of Fame coach Jeff Miller, running on the Warhawks' conference and regional teams all four years. After graduating with a degree in Math Education, he began teaching high school math and coaching cross country & track at McFarland in 2017-18, Benton in 2018-19, and currently in Darlington since the 2019-20 school year. In 2023, Kent took over as head coach for the Darlington cross country program for Hall of Fame coach and his dad, Arnie. Since taking over, the Darlington girls program has won 3 conference titles, 3 state berths, and most recently the 2025 Division 3 State Championship. Kent is also the head track & field coach at Darlington after taking over the program in 2024, focusing on the distance events and the high jump. Outside of coaching, Kent is a high school and college basketball official, where he recently officiated the 2025 WIAA Division 1 state championship game. He is engaged to his fiancé Shelby and currently lives in Darlington.

Kelly Grothus—Madrid, IA

KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Kelley Grothus has been coaching track & field and cross country at Madrid High School in Madrid, Iowa for 20 years. In the past eight years, her cross country teams have won four team state titles and had three additional top five team performances in class 1A, along with 21 all-state individual performances in cross country in the past 10 seasons. She has won numerous state and regional coach of the year awards from the Iowa Association of Track & Cross Country Coaches, as well as being named the 2019 USATF Boys Coach of the Year for Iowa the NFHS Girls' Coach of the Year in 2024. She serves on the planning committee for the She Coaches annual conference for women and girls in sports in Iowa, as well as the Iowa Association of Track Coaches mentorship program coordinator. Outside of coaching she is the instructional coach and talented & gifted teacher at Madrid Jr/Sr High school, as well as the director of religious education at St. Malachy Church in Madrid. In her favorite role, she is married to Phillip, her longest-standing assistant coach, and mother to a past, a present, and a future Tiger runner.

Trefor Jones—Homestead High School

 

Trefor Jones attended Little Chute High School (2003-2007) before attending UWSP, graduating with a major in elementary education and broadfield social sciences. He has been a public educator for the last 14 years and is the son of Hall of Fame Coach Thain Jones (Little Chute, Freedom). Trefor has been coaching boys cross country and track for 14 years with the first six years at Oconomowoc High School and the last eight years at Homestead High School. During that time, he has coached multiple state track athletes and podium placers as the middle distance coach at Oconomowoc (2013-2018) and Homestead boys middle distance and distance coach (2018-present), including two D1 boy's 4x800 championship teams (Oconomowoc 2017 and Homestead 2025) and multiple other distance athletes in the 400, 800, 1600, and 3200. During his time at Homestead High School, the boys track team has won four NSC Championship meets in six years and finished as Division 1 runner-ups in 2025. Additionally, the boys cross country team has won three NSC Championships in six years, gone to the State Meet four times in the last five years, and finished as Division 1 runner-ups twice (2021, 2025). 

Adam Topper & Craig OlsonMenomonie High School

 

Coaches Olson and Topper have been coaching together at Menomonie High School since the fall of 1999. Together they have over 100 seasons of experience coaching distance runners. Olson ran for legendary coaches Rick Koceja at Burlington High School and then Rick Witt at UW-Stevens Point. Topper was on the first ever Cross Country team at Colfax High School, coached by Joe Doucette, during his senior year and then went on to be coached by Sean Hartnett at UW-Eau Claire. 

Neither have ever worked in any other district, with Olson starting in 1998 as a Social Studies teacher and Topper starting in 2000 as a Math teacher. Currently, Olson is the head girls coach for the cross country team and head boys coach for track, while Topper is head coach for the boys in cross country and for girls in track. Olson is also the current president of the WCCCA. 

Both have extremely supportive and amazing spouses, with Mrs Topper being the big connection between the high school and middle school teams as the head coach of both the track and cross country teams. Both also have two boys between the grades of 6 and 11 who have all been part of the program.

Speaker 6—Sean Casey—Registered Dietitian

Sean Casey is a registered dietitian, movement/physical coach, and proactive health specialist who works with individuals ranging from middle and high school athletes to elite professionals, including multiple Olympic athletes, as well as everyday people looking to improve their health. His expertise is sought internationally, having traveled to 15+ countries to help clients reach their peak potential. 

 

Sean’s passion for optimizing performance health extends into the business world, where he has hosted workshops for banks, schools, community organizations, and more. He has also presented at national conferences and regional clinics.

 

Sean has extensive experience working in the proactive healthcare space as well, focusing on root cause and lifestyle approaches to optimize health through food, movement and stress management. For five years, Sean led the science team at Hometown Pharmacy of Wisconsin, an independent pharmacy chain of 50+ pharmacies. 

 

Amongst other roles, Sean currently serves as the Chief Science Officer at the Sports PharmacyNetwork and is the Founder of Performance Journey Rx.
